Primax Helps Environment with Recycling Program

WAKEFIELD, MA (December 9, 2008) – Primax today announced the results of their 2008 recycling program.

Primax recycled 720 lbs. of paper a week equaling 18.7 tons of paper for the year; helping the environment by saving the equivalent of 318 trees, 31,040 gallons of water, 78,624 kilowatt hours of energy, 7,675 gallons of fuel, and 1,123 gallons of air pollution.  “We are continuously encouraging our employees to recycle as much as possible” Ted Keith, CEO of Primax said, “through these efforts we feel we are contributing to the cause of helping the environment.”

The United States throws away enough office paper each year to build a 12-foot-high wall of paper from New York to Los Angeles and discards enough aluminum to completely rebuild the American commercial airline fleet every three months.  By recycling one aluminum can, the energy saved will operate a television set for three hours or light one 100 watt bulb for 20 hours.  Items not recycled and thrown away such as milk cartons take 5 years to decompose, plastic bags 10 – 20 years, aluminum cans 50 to 80 years, plastic soda bottles 450 years, and glass bottles 500 years  (source: EPA, Penn State University).

Primax will continue their current efforts and research new ways to increase their recycling program in 2009.
